I’m writing this post due to a stirring in my soul. Recently I’ve been thinking about Jesus and the connection He has with our Father. He described this connection as “ONE”. He also prayed that we would be one with each other just as He is one with the Father and that we would be one with them also. I think this is one of the most overlooked passages in the bible. Jesus described our perfect relationship as one not only with God but each other and Himself. Wow I can’t seem to get my head wrapped around that but never the less He said it so it must be possible.
Fast forward and here we are, still in the same position as 2000 years ago. Surely if religion could get us there at least some of us would have reached the goal. The reasons are many and fault should be dismissed. Fault only leads to condemnation, guilt and judgment. These are a big part of the reason we haven’t achieved our goal or Jesus’ goal for us. The reason being that if we are one or to become one then we can’t judge one another. Think about it, if we judge someone then we bring the same judgment on ourselves, because we are one. We also bring the same judgment on Jesus because He is one with us also. That doesn’t sound very nice does it?
I also think forgiveness plays a big part in us reaching Jesus’ goal for us. Would we withhold forgiveness from our selves? Would we withhold forgiveness from Jesus? And yet that is just what we do when we hold grievances against one another because we are to be one. If we are to be one with Jesus then we have to start thinking of ourselves as one with each other also. If I am to think of myself as forgiven then I have to think of my brothers and sisters as forgiven also. If I choose to condemn or judge another child of God then I am doing it to myself also (and Jesus too).
